Color Guard
What is Color Guard?
Color Guard is a competitive, performance-based activity which incorporates choreographed staging, dance, and manipulation of equipment such as flags and prop rifles and sabres (also known as "spinning"). Color Guard spins outside in congruence with the Marching Band members who march and play several different instruments.
Auditions
This is an auditioned group, with students auditioning either for flag or weapons line (must have spun at least one season in order to audition for weapons line). All members will be expected to dance as it will be incorporated throughout the choreography. These auditions are open to any member of the New Bern High School Band program, students of New Bern High School, and rising freshman. No prior experience is necessary. Note that current grades, behaviors, and school attendance will be taken into consideration.
Rehearsals & Performances
Color Guard rehearses April through November, omitting June and the first two weeks of July, and participates in several competitions throughout September, October as well as home football games and Christmas parades. Band camp is for two weeks and typically occurs the last two weeks of July. Weekly Rehearsal times are Monday from 3:00-5:30 and Tuesday and Thursday from 3:00-6:00.
