Winter Guard
What is Winter Guard?
Winter Guard is a competitive, performance-based activity that incorporates choreographed staging, dance, and manipulation of equipment such as flags, props, rifles, and sabres (also known as "spinning"). Winter Guard spins inside on a designed tarp.
Auditions
This is an auditioned group, with students auditioning either for the flag or weapons line (must have spun at least one season to audition for the weapons line); note that all members will be expected to dance as it will be incorporated throughout the choreography. These auditions are open to any member of the New Bern High School Band program and New Bern High School students. Note that current grades, behaviors, and school attendance will be taken into consideration. No prior experience is necessary.
Rehearsals & Performances
Winter Guard rehearses from November through March and participates in competitions throughout February and March. Winter Guard rehearses Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday weekly from 3:00-5:30. There are also Saturday camps throughout January and possibly February.
